My name is Nikita, I am a Bay Area based artist currently earning my BFA in painting/drawing at California College of the Arts. My work encompasses the beauty of experiencing the fleeting moment, of all things from joy to despair. My goal is to evoke memories with my work. As a painter I feel compelled to express the idea that loveliness manifests itself from the inside out.
My paintings are built up of layers of diluted paint and pools of water. These surfaces create figure and form that border the realms of landscape and manipulate the figure-ground relationship to encompass more abstraction than reality. Materiality in my work is also very important to me: From the different kinds of paint and mediums I mix together, to the movement of my body when working on a large surface, the feeling is key. This frees me and allows for a natural harmony to occur between all the mediums. It allows certain parts of the application to fall out of my control. This looseness that builds my paintings allows the audience to bring to the works their own imagination, association, and experience.
